The Indian cricket team kickstarted the 3-match ODI series on a brilliant note by defeating West Indies to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The Indian bowlers stole the show with their amazing performance that set the match up for the hosts.
The just-concluded first ODI match was special for two wonderful reasons. The first one of course was that it was the first assignment of Rohit Sharma as the full-time ODI skipper, while another reason was that the Indian national cricket team is making their 1000th appearance in ODIs.

Before the match began, Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first. The decision to bowl first was backed by the Indian bowlers. Mohammed Siraj gave a good kickstart to the Indian team by dismissing Shai Hope early. Washington Sundar was brought inside the powerplay and he picked two wickets in a wonderful spell.
After the powerplay, Yuzvendra Chahal was brought in and he made a stunning comeback into the team. He picked two wickets in his very first over as he dismissed Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard, virtually ending West Indies’ challenge in the game.
After two more wickets, the visitors found themselves at 79/7. Jason Holder and Fabian Allen joined hands and build a strong partnership before the last three wickets fell and the West Indies cricket team collapsed up for 176.
The target was an easy one for the hosts and the Indian batters ensured the same they got off to a flyer. Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan got India off to a flier. Rohit scored a fifty on his return to the side.
Then came a time when the game looked slipping out of India’s hands as the visitors managed to get 4 wickets. Deepak Hooda and Yadav though ensured that there were no surprises for the Indian team as they played very responsibly to take their side over the line.
Meanwhile, social media was flooded with amazing reactions from the fans to it. Several cricketers, experts, and fans, everyone took to Twitter and praised the performance of Indian cricketers.
Here, check out the reactions of Twitterati on this:
That was easy. India win in style. Excellent spell from the spinners Chahal and Sundar, great start from Rohit at the top with bat and Surya and Hooda finishing the job with ease. Happy 1000th ODI for Team India. #IndvWI pic.twitter.com/Hjnlhw3rw0

SKY vs Iyer is a clear choice for Limited overs.
Ability to rotate strike, playing spin well and 360 play gives him a clear edge.#INDvsWI— Gaurav Dubey गौरव दूबे (@dubey_gd) February 6, 2022
I can’t believe it, 40 years ago West Indies team was nightmare
Now even Ireland beats them ?My heart breaks to see their cricket degrading like this ! ?

Jason Holder is also an experienced campaigner. He has been performing well for a large period of time now.
All they lack is a new ball bowler to partner Holder and a decent leg-spinner to operate in the middle overs phase.

India won the first ODI by 6 wickets, some brilliant performance by Sundar and Chahal with the ball and Rohit with the bat gives India 1-0 lead in 3 match ODI series.

Convincing win for India at the end….there was some break when they had a collapse after the Rohit wicket but then Hooda & SKY showed great maturity & had a fine partnership to take India home….Bowlers did their job excellently especially the spinners ???? #INDvsWI #Cricket

Far too easy for India there! Won’t win many games of ODI cricket only posting 176. A bit of fight in the middle but nowhere near enough! #INDvWI
