India’s star cricketer KL Rahul’s outing in South Africa as the stand-by captain of team India came to a disastrous end as the Indian side was white-washed by the hosts in the 3-match ODI series. Despite half-centuries by Virat Kohli (65 off 83 balls), Shikhar Dhawan (61 off 73 balls), and Deepak Chahar (54 off 34 balls), team India led by KL Rahul failed to avoid a series whitewash, losing the third ODI match by 4 runs.
Though the team began their tour on a stunning note, by winning the first Test match by 113 runs, however, they lost the plot and the rest of the tour became a nightmare for the Indian side. The defeat must be tough for KL Rahul, who lost all the four games he captained during the tour.
KL Rahul is tipped as the next man in line to take up the Test captaincy after Virat Kohli resigned from the role, following a 2-1 series defeat against Proteas. However, after enduring a disastrous tour to South Africa, Rahul’s captaincy has come under the scanner of criticism. The stylish cricketer has been receiving criticism from all corners for his captaincy during the just-concluded tour of the game.
Meanwhile, taking to Twitter on Monday, KL Rahul said that leading the national team was a great honor for him. He also issued a clarification following the humiliating defeat in the series. He wrote:
“Difficult journeys help you to improve and grow stronger. The results might not have gone our way, but we will learn from the mistakes. Leading the country was a great honour, a proud moment which cannot be described in words.”
“The work does not stop as we focus on getting better and never giving up. Thank you for your support”
