Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri penned down a heartfelt post for Virat Kohli after he stepped down from the Test captaincy. India’s great Virat Kohli brought an end to his 7-year reign as India’s Test captain. Virat Kohli, who had replaced MS Dhoni as the full-time captain in the 2014/15 season, has finished his Test captaincy as India’s most successful Test captain, winning 40 out of 68 Tests.
Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli shared a great partnership as Indian coach and captain during their tenure and have also shared a great camaraderie off the field. Together, they took the Indian cricket team to the number one position and made it a mighty force. Under their leadership and guidance, the Indian cricket team dominated the cricket world, where they registered several memorable wins.
After Virat Kohli announced his decision to step down as the captain of team India in the longest format of the game, Ravi Shastri took to Twitter and expressed how it is a sad day for him as he built his team with Virat together. He wrote:
“Virat, you can go with your head held high. Few have achieved what you have as captain. Definitely India’s most aggressive and successful. Sad day for me personally as this is the team we built together.”

Earlier, Virat announced that he stepped down as Team India Test captain. In his statement, Kohli also paid tribute to former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri and former skipper MS Dhoni for showing faith in him. Kohli called them the engine behind the vehicle that moved the Indian cricket team forward. He wrote:
“I want to thank the BCCI for giving me the opportunity to lead my country for such a long period of time and more importantly, to all the teammates who bought into the vision I had for the team from day one and never gave up in any situation. You guys have made this journey so memorable and beautiful. To Ravi bhai and the support group who were the engine behind this vehicle that moved us upwards in Test cricket consistently, you all have played a massive role in bringing this vision to life. Lastly, a big thank you to MS Dhoni who believed in me as a captain and found me to be an able individual who could take Indian Cricket forward.”
