Abhijit Ganguly Explained Why ‘Bumrah vs Jansen’ Was The Best Moment Of The Match: The third Test match between India and South Africa, in Cape Town, has had its moment which excited the fans. Whether it was Virat Kohli’s trademark cover drive to get off the mark, or Kagiso Rabada’s two peaches to dismiss Ajinkya Rahane twice, or Keegan Petersen’s flying catch to get rid of Cheteshwar Pujara.

But none matches the swagger of Jasprit Bumrah’s stare that the Indian spearhead pacer gave as a send-off to Marco Jansen after castling the South African youngster. This was in the backdrop of the heated exchange the duo had during the second Test in Johannesburg when Bumrah was batting and Jansen bowled a series of short balls towards the Indian tailender.

Now, in Cape Town, it was
Jansen on strike and Bumrah was in superb rhythm. After peppering Jansen with a couple of short balls, Bumrah fired in a length delivery at 144 Kph that pitched outside off stump and kept coming in with Bumrah’s angle. Jansen played inside the line, however, he was squared up and the ball went past his outside edge to send the off-stump cartwheeling.

Bumrah knew he’d had his revenge and opted not to say anything, but just gave Jansen a stare. The batsman didn’t look at the bowler and kept going towards the dressing room.

Famous comedian Abhijit Ganguly took to Twitter and explained why this moment – Bumrah’s focused stare – was the best moment of the match. He pointed out that Jansen and Bumrah were together at Mumbai Indians last season. It was Jansen’s maiden IPL season and was fortunate to spend time and learn from Jasprit Bumrah, arguably the best fast bowler in the world.

In the Test series, then, it was the battle between the teacher and the student, the master and the apprentice. Here, Bumrah reminded young Jansen that he’s “still the top dog”.
