Former Australian Player Asked Shane Warne To ‘Shut Up’ For Criticising ‘Own Players’

Chadd Sayers, the South Australian pacer who has played a solitary Test so far in his career, trolled legendary spinner Shane Warne for the remarks he had made about Mitchell Starc and Usman Khawaja before the Ashes series.

Shane Warne has been critical of Starc in particular and had wanted Jhye Richardson in the eleven over the left-arm pacer. However, Starc silenced all his critics with some superb bowling performances – he’s the leading wicket-taker in the series so far with 14 scalps to his name at an average of 19.92.

Warner had also picked all-rounder Mitchell Marsh to play over Usman Khawaja. The left-hand batsman, after missing the first three Tests when Travis Head made his place secure, got a chance to bat in the fourth Test at the SCG. Khawaja made full use of this opportunity and registered his 9th Test ton, banishing any and every doubt over his form and class.

Following Khawaja’s ton, Chadd Sayers took to Twitter to slam Shane Warne for criticising his own country players, and asked him to “Shut Up”.

“Shane Warne keeps bagging his own Aussie players. Went hard at Starc – Wrong and now Uzzie – wrong #shutup” Sayers tweeted.

This is what Warne had said in context to Starc and Khawaja ahead of the Ashes when asked about the two players’ place in Australia’s eleven.

“He (Starc) needs to find a bit of rhythm and some form. He had a really poor [T20] World Cup. He’s just not bowling well enough. It’s too important at the Gabba. So I’m all for Jhye Richardson,” Warne had said about the fast bowler.

The great leg-spinner wanted the in-form Mitchell Marsh over Khawaja.

“Australia has been waiting a long time for Mitchell Marsh to come good and right at the moment he’s in the form of his life. For me, I just think as a bowler who would I rather bowl to, Khawaja or Mitchell Marsh? I’d much rather bowl to Khawaja,” Warner had opined.

Khawaja, who came in the side in absence of the covid-19 positive tested Travis Head, marked his return to the Test arena after two years with a memorable century.

Australia declared their first innings at 416/8. England are 13/0 at the end of Day 2.
