The Indian players are sweating it out ahead of the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa from 26th December. Ahead of the series, the Virat Kohli led Indian side has had several injuries concerns with the likes of Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, and Axar Patel, being ruled out.
Now in the absence of these players, the Indian side will have to be on their toes to get the better of the Proteas team, in order to attain their first-ever Test series win on South African soil. For that to happen, the Indian side will have to have a good start to the game and hope for Virat Kohli to deliver with the bat.
Former Indian cricketer and legendary batter Rahul Dravid kickstarted his tenure as the Indian head coach with a brilliant note. However, the biggest challenge in front of him is to get Virat Kohli back in form. In 2021, Virat Kohli hasn’t been able to give his best and could only amass 483 runs in 10 innings at 28.43, with four half-centuries.
The Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli has been struggling badly with the bat. His problems have been aggravated after he was removed from Team India’s ODI skipper and his differences with the BCCI’s team management coming to the fore.
His last century in any format came in November 2019 against Bangladesh. Ever since then the fand have been waiting for the century. However, a lean phase can never rule out the fact that he is a GOAT player.
He has been the highest run-scorer for the Indian side seven times in the last 10 years. Virat has been the highest run-scorer Indian batter for three consecutive years in 2012, 2013, and 2014. However, the streak broke in 2015 and Ajinkya Rahane scored the highest run in the year.
But he returned back soon and became the highest run-scorer for team India in the next four years i.e. 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. Out of these six times i.e. in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019, Virat scored more than two thousand runs in all three formats.

In 2021, KL Rahul became the highest run-scorer Indian batter in a calendar year and had amassed a total of 847 runs in all the three formats in the year, which was badly interrupted by the COVID pandemic. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma is leading the list of highest run-scorer of 2021. He has amassed 1420 runs in 2021.
Lately, he has been having extended net sessions in South Africa. Virat will be desperate to end his long wait for an international hundred.
