The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has found itself at the receiving end of criticism from fans on social media ever since Virat Kohli was replaced as the ODI captain with Rohit Sharma on Wednesday.

Though this announcement was expected ever since Virat had announced his decision to step down from the captaincy of T20I cricket, earlier this year, and considering that Kohli has failed to win a single ICC title during his four-year tenure as the Indian skipper. But the BCCI’s decision to replace Virat with Rohit Sharma as the ODI skipper hasn’t gone done well with the fans.

Fans Are Slamming BCCI On ‘Thank You’ Tweet For Virat Kohli

Though Rohit already took the captaincy charge in T20Is from the recently concluded 2-match T20I series against New Zealand but he wasn’t officially announced as the captain of the shortest format by the selection committee at that time. On Wednesday, Rohit was given the full-time responsibility as India’s captain in limited-overs cricket.

Meanwhile, ever since the announcement was made by the BCCI, fans on social media are trolling and slamming the BCCI for the bold step. #ShameOnBCCI has been one of the top trending hashtags in India. Fans were also disappointed with the fact that not a single word of appreciation was posted by the BCCI for Virat Kohli over the last 24 hours.

On Thursday, BCCI finally took to social media and thanked Kohli for his services as the ODI skipper of Team India. Sharing a picture of Virat’s tally, BCCI wrote:

“A leader who led the side with grit, passion & determination. Thank you Captain @imVkohli!”

However, the fans were left unimpressed with the BCCI as they felt it was too late to share the post. Fans are trolling the BCCI left, right, and center.

Here, check out the reactions from the fans:

So much hardwork put into this edit, no wonder it took 24 hours to complete…. And we thought BCCI doesn’t care !! Shame on everyone

That’s it not my board, I am no longer a BCCI supporter, I am moving to a better board like PCB where they know how to run a cricket team

Phir hataya kyu

It’s not about the position, it’s about the respect. What Virat has achieved in his career so far, he deserved every bit of respect and appreciation. A player of his stature definitely deserved better from the board he has served all these years.
