Fans Went Berserk After Ajaz Patel Took All 10 Wickets

Mumbai-born New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel scripted history at the iconic Wankhede Stadium after he became only the third cricketer to claim 10 wickets in a single inning of a Test match. Ajaz Patel walked off to a standing ovation at the Wankhede Stadium as he became the first New Zealand bowler to take all 10 wickets in Test innings.

Apart from the talented opener Mayank Agarwal, no other batsman seldom looked like they could deal with the dangerous-looking Ajaz Patel throughout the first innings. On Day 1 of the ongoing second Test match, Ajaz dismissed Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer before he returned to complete his 10-wicket-haul by sending back Wridhhiman Saha, R Ashwin, Mayank Agarwal, Axar Patel, Jayant Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj on Day 2.

Ajaz Patel’s efforts in the match saw India bundle out for 325 in their first innings. Ajaz dismissed Mohammed Siraj to complete a perfect 10-wicket haul on Day 2 to emulate Jim Laker and Anil Kumble in the elite list. He is only the third bowler to pick all the 10 wickets in an innings in the history of Test cricket.

Jim Laker had registered astonishing figures of 10 wickets of 53 in 1956 against Australia at Old Trafford in Manchester, on the other hand, Anil Kumble had taken just 26.3 overs to take 10 wickets for 74 runs against Pakistan in New Delhi.

Here, check out the very exclusive 10 wickets in an innings club:

Jim Laker: 51.2-23-53-10 (1956)

Anil Kumble: 26.3-9-74-10 (1999)

Ajaz Patel: 47.5-12-119-10 (2021)
