Shane Warne And Glenn Maxwell’s Conversation On Test Cricket: The India versus New Zealand Test in Kanpur was a great endorsement of Test cricket as the match went down the wire, with the visitors escaping narrowly with a draw.

Debutant Rachin Ravindra and Number 11 Ajaz Patel saw off the last 52 balls from the Indian spin trio on a slow and low surface to help the Kiwis avoid a loss with just one wicket left.

New Zealand had started Day 5 at 4/1 having lost Will Young late on Day 4. Opener Tom Latham and nightwatchman William Somerville batted the entire first session as draw looked a likely outcome on a pitch which didn’t deteriorate as much as the Indians would have expected.

However, the home bowlers kept bowling to their plans and kept striking regularly in the next two sessions; 4 wickets fell in each of the second and third sessions, however, they couldn’t manage to put the final nail in the coffin.

New Zealand, the reigning World Test Champions, showed exemplary adaptability to the Indian conditions despite having not played a single tour or practice game ahead of the Test series courtesy of the jam-packed schedule. Tim Southee and Kyle Jamieson were brilliant with the ball, while Tom Latham led the way with the bat in both innings.

India, on the other hand, have debutant Shreyas Iyer to thank for keeping them in the game after top- and middle-order failures in both innings.

This thrilling and captivating end to the Test has got the world talking about the longest format again.

Star Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell expressed his excitement on Twitter, and also his love for Test cricket, even though he hasn’t featured in the whites for four years.

Maxwell tweeted: ‘How good’s test cricket?’

Legendary leg-spinner Shane Warne responded to Maxwell’s tweet, saying that Test cricket is: “The best”. He also reminded everyone that the high-voltage Ashes series gets underway soon.

“The best !!!! Love test cricket. The #ashes is only 9 sleeps@away,” Warne tweeted.
