On Monday, as team India stepped out to play their last league match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021 against Namibia, they were seen donning black armbands. The Indian side wore black armbands as a mark of respect to renowned coach Tarak Sinha who died last week.
Tarak Sinha, who has worked with generations of Indian cricketers and has groomed several current Indian cricketers, passed away on Saturday morning after suffering from a prolonged illness, at the age of 71. Tarak Sinha was battling lung cancer for a while and he recently had organ failure.
“The Indian Cricket Team is wearing black armbands today to pay their tributes to Dronacharya Awardee and widely respected coach Shri Tarak Sinha, who sadly passed away on Saturday,” said the BCCI in a statement.

The legendary coach, who was fondly called ‘Ustaadji” by his students, was awarded the Dronacharya Award. He was like a father figure in Delhi’s famous Sonnet Club, which has produced some of the greatest cricketers for India.
Tarak Sinha groomed the most number of international and first-class cricketers as his disciples, some of the names of his disciples includes Surinder Khanna, Randhir Singh, Manoj Prabhakar, Raman Lamba, Ajay Sharma, Atul Wassan, Sanjeev Sharma, Ashish Nehra, Anjum Chopra, Aakash Chopra, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rishabh Pant.
Apart from training male cricketers, Sinha had served as the coach of the Indian women’s cricket team from 2001 to 2002.
Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team is currently locking its horns with Namibia in their last league match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. This match will mark the end of Ravi Shastri’s career as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. This will also be the last match of Virat Kohli as India’s T20I skipper.
