Gautam Gambhir Speaks In Support Of MS Dhoni: The final battle of the ongoing 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League will get underway tonight at the Dubai International Stadium. Both the teams are just one step away from sealing their fat for this season.
Interestingly, both the franchises that are in the title-decider have the two most under-performing captains of this season – MS Dhoni (for CSK) and Eoin Morgan (for KKR). While both the cricketers have a reputation for winning big games for their teams, their current form is a matter of concern.
Ahead of the high-voltage thriller, the Dhoni vs Morgan debate started among fans on the internet and several experts and fans have come out with their take on the same. Among many, former Indian cricketer and World Cup hero Gautam Gambhir has also joined the bandwagon and has called it an ‘Apple vs Orange’ debate.
Gambhir, who is known for never mincing his words, said that both the skippers – Eoin Morgan and MS Dhoni – shouldn’t be compared to each other as one of them has already retired from international cricket, and thus comparing their forms is very wrong. He said:
“Comparing their forms is very wrong in itself because MS Dhoni has retired from international cricket and the second player is the captain of his national team. You should not compare apples with oranges. MS Dhoni hasn’t played international cricket for so long and it’s acceptable if he’s not in form or is contributing less. But on the other hand, Morgan is playing international cricket. Still, if you look at their performances, MS Dhoni has performed better than Morgan even with the bat,”
Furthermore, Gambhir feels Dhoni has more responsibilities on his shoulders being a wicket-keeper as compared to Eoin Morgan. He said:
“Moreover, MS Dhoni also keeps wickets and captains so there are three departments. Morgan has only two things – captaincy and batting, where one has been totally bad. So, it’s not fair to compare MS and Morgan’s form,”
Meanwhile, the final showdown between MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings and Eoin Morgan-led Kolkata Knight Riders will kickstart tonight at 7:30 PM.
