Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals’ journey in IPL 2021 finally came to an end after they lost in Qualifier 2 at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders. Finally, we have our finalists. Kolkata Knight Riders will now take on Chennai Super Kings in the final showdown. One of these teams will lift the trophy in Dubai.
From the bottom of the table to make it to the playoffs, what a turnout Kolkata Knight Riders had this season, courtesy to some incredible performances from Venkatesh Iyer, Varun Chakravarthy, Rahul Tripathi and others.
Talking about Qualifier 2, as the match kickstarted, Delhi Capitals were asked to bat first and the decision turned out to be in favor of the Kolkata Knight Riders as they managed to get better of Delhi Capitals batsmen. None of the DC batters could get going as they were seen struggling for timing during their stay at the crease.
Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan gave a decent start to their team. While Prithvi Shaw was dismissed after scoring 18 runs off 12 balls, on the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan contributed some crucial runs for their team but at a poor strike rate of 92.31. He scored 36 runs off 39 balls before departing while trying to break the shackles.
In the end, Shreyas Iyer(30) and Shimron Hetmyer(17) played some crucial cameos to take his team to a respectable total. Varun Chakravarthy turned out to be the stand-out player with the ball and returned with the figures of 2/26. Varun gave nightmares to DC batters with his variations and successfully contained DC from hitting big shots.
It wasn’t a big target for Kolkata Knight Riders however the pressure of the moment could have gotten to them but they didn’t let it get to their heads. KKR openers Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer walked out with all-guns-blazing and gave a flying start to their team.
However, the batters, later on, struggled to get going on this sluggish surface. From 123 for 1 they found themselves at 129 for 5 needing 7 runs in the last over.
