He smashed an unbeaten knock of 101 runs off 60 balls batting through the innings and helping his team post 189 runs on the board. Gaikwad scored his maiden century against Rajasthan Royals. He started his knock with a four and ended it with a stunning six. Ruturaj completed his fifty in 43 deliveries, shifted gears in middle overs, accelerating to the three-figure mark in just 60 balls. His stunning knock was laced with 9 fours and 5 sixes.

While speaking on Star Sports, Brian Lara heaped praises on Ruturaj and said that he could have scored more runs if he had got more strike in the end overs. He said:

“Yeah, he could have been 135 if he had got more strike in the end overs. But it was a complete show of batsmanship. That’s what I like about him, seeing how he put that innings together, how he surged in the second half of the innings. He was just tremendous to watch,”

Further, Brian Lara also noted that Gaikwad played proper cricketing shots. He also said that he will put him KL Rahul’s category of batsmanship. He said:

“He shows that you can play good cricket shots and still score big runs. And that’s what I am proud of as a batsman. It was just remarkable and unbelievable. I will put him now in the KL Rahul category,”
