Sheldon Cottrell to join IPL 2021 as a net bowler: The Indian Premier League is the biggest cash-rich league in the world. The cricketers do not just get an opportunity to show their talent to the world but they get rewarded with a huge paycheque. However, over the years, we have seen cricketers fading away after they failed to live up to the expectations of the fans.
Such has been the case with West Indies fast bowler Sheldon Cottrell, who was picked by Punjab Kings for a whopping amount of 8.5 crores last year. However, after his mediocre performances, the franchise released him.
In the previous edition of the IPL, Sheldon Cottrell had an unimpressive debut. He scalped six wickets but leaked runs at an economy rate of 8.80, in the six games he played for Punjab Kings. He also had a horrid time in Sri Lanka with just one wicket in exchange for 8.62 runs an over.
To add more to his miseries, the cricketer didn’t get any buyers in this year’s auctions and now he has been signed up as a net bowler.
Yes, you read that right. Ahead of the much-awaited tournament, Sheldon Cottrell has been roped in by the franchises as a net bowler. As per reports, Sheldon is one of the highest-paid bowlers ever. However, it must be tough for Cottrell to return to IPL but not on-field. The bowler will be looking forward to leaving a mark as a net bowler and make a comeback in IPL 2022 through the mega-auction.
Apart from Sheldon, West Indies bowlers Dominic Drakes, Fidel Edwards, and Ravi Rampaul, are also roped in by franchises as net bowlers for the second leg of the IPL 2021 in UAE as net bowlers, according to reports.
