Indian vice–captain Ajinkya Rahane has had a forgetful run so far in the ongoing 5-match Test series against England. So, far in the ongoing series, Rahane has managed to cross the half-century mark only once at the Lord’s while the rest of his outings have been disappointing. Because of his inconsistent form and poor performances, there have been questions raised over his position in the Indian squad.
In fact, entering the 4th day of the 4th Test match at the Oval, Ajinkya Rahane failed to contribute with the bat as he was trapped in front of the stumps and was sent back to the pavilion for a duck by Chris Woakes. He walked out to bat at number 6 after the dismissal of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja and joined Virat Kohli in the middle. However, the vice-captain failed miserably and was dismissed by Chris Woakes.
With his duck on the 3rd innings, Rahane took his series run tally to 109 (5, 1, 61, 18, 10, 14, 0). Talking about his poor average in the ongoing series, it has been a declining one (below 40) as a whole and it has become a matter of grave concern for the team.
Meanwhile, disappointed with the performance of Rahane, fans on social media went berserk and started trolling the cricketer for his poor performance. There were many who asked for his replacement in the next test match, while others demanded his removal from the ‘vice-captain’ position. Several fans even started the ‘Thank You Rahane’ trend on Twitter as they asked for his removal from the playing XI.
