12000 test runs take a lot of endurance and fitness. But reaching this milestone is so special that everything seems worth the hard work and persistence. In the Ashes that recently went by, Alastair Cook joined the elite 12000 runs club in test cricket.
Reaching 12000 test runs in test cricket is an amazing feel and a huge milestone to have against your name. All those batsmen who have reached here have had illustrious careers and they have served their respective teams with diligence and exuberance along years.
Only six batsmen in the world have reached 12000 test runs. Among these 6 batsmen, Kumara Sangakkara is the fastest to reach this milestone. Kumara Sangakkara got 12000 test runs in just 224 innings. Following him on the list is Sachin Tendulkar, the legend who got to 12000 runs in 247 innings.
All these names featuring on the list are legends indeed. The list features one of the greatest Aussie skippers ever, Ricky Ponting and also ‘The Wall’ of the Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid. The former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis is also a member of the elite 12000 club.
Ricky Ponting also reached 12000 test runs in 247 innings which is the same number of innings as taken by Sachin Tendulkar. Jacques Kallis, the former South African legend reached 12000 test runs in 249 innings followed by Rahul Dravid who took 255 innings to enter the club.
The latest to be a member of this very special club is the former England skipper, Alastair Cook who reached 12000 test runs from 275 innings. He got to this milestone on 4th January 2018 while playing the Ashes.
It is amazing to learn that two Indians feature on the list and those two have been India’s greatest test batsmen ever who have served Indian cricket for so long. Given the way he is going, Virat Kohli has every chance to be a part of this elite club and so does Steve Smith.
