At the start of today’s play the visitors seemed in a content position as they were 165/4 at the start of the day. Even the day started well for them and they soon gained lead over India but then things changed quickly.

Mohammad Shammi and Bhuvneshwar Kumar soon transformed the entire landscape. From 200/4 the Lankans went to 201/7 as the Indian pacers unleashed a whirlpool of fine bowling.

In just a matter of three overs things changed drastically and Dickwela, Dasun Shanaka and Skipper, Dinesh Chandimal were sent back to the change room. It seemed as if the Indian pacers had looted the Lankan batting miserably and the visitors wouldn’t even cross 250.

But then Rangana Herath who time and again proved that age is just a number came to the rescue of his team. He made India work really hard to get his wicket and piled up 67 runs for his team contrary to team India’s intents. Hearth’s heroics at No 9 once again overturned things and Sri Lanka posted 294 on the scoreboard with a lead of 122 runs.

Bhuvi and Shammi bowled their hearts out and claimed 4 wickets each for their team while Umesh Yadav picked the remaining two. Surprisingly the spinners, Jadeja and Ashwin remained deprived of wickets.

Indian openers were spot on too and have India the dream start they wanted. The openers were right on their money and gave their team a magnificent stand of 166 runs. While both the openers failed to contribute in the first innings they made up for it in the second innings.

Dhawan played a staggering knock of 94 before falling towards the end of the day.

KL Rahul is still at the crease having hit an amazing and valuable half century. The match seems to be inclining towards a draw most likely.

Here are some of the amazing tweets from Day 4:

Shikhar Dhawan is playing a phenomenal innings here. If David Warner plays an innings like this at, say, Sydney, thousands of words will be written about it…

One’s gain is another’s loss. What will India do with Murali Vijay now when they go to South Africa? Will they persist with Dhawan? #INDvSL

You may support India, but you cannot help but smile and nod when Herath gets runs.#INDvSL

Herath’s innings has ensured that only two results are now possible in this game. A draw or a Sri Lankan win
