Virat Kohli May Handover The Captaincy To Rohit Sharma After WTC Final

Virat Kohli May Handover The Captaincy To Rohit Sharma After WTC Final: The split captaincy is one of the most discussed topics in the Indian cricketing fraternity. Currently, Virat Kohli is leading the Indian cricket team in all three formats of the game, however, many feel that Kohli should hand over the captaincy of team India in limited formats to Rohit Sharma.

The latest one to give his opinion on the matter is former Chief selector Kiran More, who feels that split captaincy can work well for team India. He also claimed that there will be a time when Kohli will himself hand over the captaincy to Rohit.

Recently, in an interview with India TV, former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Kiran More, stated that the current Indian skipper Virat Kohli has learned a lot from the legendary Indian cricketer. More also claimed that just like MS Dhoni, Virat too might ease out the pressure on his shoulders by letting Rohit Sharma lead at least in one format of the game. He said:

“I think the vision of the board drives these things. I believe Rohit Sharma will get a chance soon. Virat Kohli is a shrewd captain who played under MS Dhoni. How long he wants to captain the ODIs and T20s, he will also think. You will learn a lot more about these decisions after the England tour,”

Kiran was asked whether split captaincy can work in India, responding to which, he said that leading a team in all the three formats can become very tiring at one point in time, thus, split captaincy can work. He said:

“It [Split captaincy] can work in India. What the senior players think about the Indian team’s future is very important. With Virat Kohli, captaining three teams isn’t that easy plus he has to perform as well. And I give him the credit for it because performing in every format while captaining and winning… but, I think there will be a time when Virat Kohli will say ‘Now it’s enough, let Rohit lead the side’,”

Further, Kiran hailed Kohli as one of the best batsmen around the world and said that split captaincy will only be healthy for him and the Indian side. He said:

“That will be very healthy actually. And this is a huge message for Indian cricket which will go on and on for generations. It’s about respect that if Rohit Sharma is doing good he should be given a chance. I think Virat Kohli will set a great precedent if he does that. The future will hinge on his decision – how much rest he wants, if he wants to captain the Test team or the ODI team. He’s a human too, his mind gets tired also,”

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli and his squad is currently serving the mandatory quarantine period in Mumbai’s hotel, before they leave for the UK for the much-awaited World Test Championship Final against New Zealand.
