Virat Kohli Heaped Praises On Rohit Sharma’s Powerful Knock

It was a sight to behold for the Indian cricket fans as the Indian skipper Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma walked-in to open the innings for team India to give a flying start to team India in the fifth T20I against England in Ahmedabad.

It was the first time that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opened the innings for team India in a T20I. While Virat Kohli played in the defensive mode, Rohit smashed the bowlers all around the ground in an attacking style.

Rohit scored 64 runs off just 34 balls before he was dismissed by Ben Stokes. His powerful knock was laced by 4 fours and 5 stunning sixes. On the other hand, Virat scored 80 runs off 50 balls, smashing 7 fours and 2 sixes.

Later after the match, Virat Kohli heaped praises on Rohit Sharma and said that their partnership was based on the ‘trust‘ the two players share. Talking about the match, Virat called his own performance pretty good, however, claimed that his partnership with Sharma was more pleasurable. He said:

“Pretty good (on his own performance). Two games we won, out of the three I scored in, so yeah, good returns. But I was more pleased with the fact that today Rohit and I walked out to bat ,and we were both positive in our intent. We wanted to take the game forward, and we knew we could trust each other in reading the situation, and one of us can play second fiddle if the other takes off. I think that gave both of us a bit more freedom to know when it’s our turn and we will go for it,”

Furthermore, talking about Rohit’s innings, Kohli termed it as ‘classic’ and called for more such knocks from the opener. He said:

Today it was classic Rohit Sharma, and the way he bats at the top of the order, if he can play like that more regularly and freely and not worry about playing through to 15-16 overs, it’s going to be a lot of damage to the opposition. And then Surya coming in at three and taking the game even further away from the opposition with his counterattack. Then Hardik in the end was beautiful as well. So yeah, I did enjoy all the partnerships and yeah, as I said, it was a very clinical game,”
