Indian batsman Cheteshwar Pujara’s dismissal on Day 3 of the ongoing 1st Test match between India and Australia took everyone by surprise as he lost his wicket in an unusual manner.
The dismissal took place in the 51st over of the game, when Pujara got a half-tracker from Dominic Bess. Pujara rocked onto his backfoot and played a pull shot. However, the ball bounced off Ollie Pope, and went straight on the hands of Rory Burns. It was the first time that Pujara’s pull shot rebounded off like this and he was dismissed in this way. It was a very shocking and unusual sight for the fans.
Cheteshwar Pujara, who is usually known for his calm and composed nature on-field was seen expressing his frustration after his dismissal as he smashed his pads with his bat. He had to take the long walk back to the pavilion. The video of the dismissal has been going viral on social media.

Infact, the official Twitter handle of the International Cricket Council (ICC) termed the mode of Pujara’s dismissal as “unusual”. The tweet read:
“Pujara falls! An unusual dismissal, Pujara’s pull shot rebounding off the short leg fielder straight to Burns at short mid-wicket Astonished face India’s No.3 walks back for 73,”

Meanwhile, Pujara, who scored 73 runs, also talked about his unusual dismissal and expressed his dismissal by saying:
“Yeah it was [disappointing]. That is something [about] which I can’t do much as a batsman. It was just unlucky. I would say that. That is the only way I could have got out. I was batting really well. The way I was playing my shots. The way I was seeing the ball. Everything was perfect,”
He added:
“That was the most unfortunate way, one can imagine. So I am a bit disappointed. There is nothing I can do as a batsman. That wasn’t any technical error. I was trying to put that away. It hit the short-leg fielder. So can’t help it,”
