Team India suffered an embarrassing eight-wicket defeat in the first day-night Test match that took place in Adelaide Oval. After watching that disastrous defeat of team India, former India batsman and a former BCCI chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar has urged the BCCI to send Rahul Dravid to Australia as soon as possible.
Vengsarkar believes that the experience of Rahul Dravid can be highly beneficial for the team in the absence of the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, who will take no further part in the Test series due to paternity leave.
The former Indian cricketer, Rahul Dravid is known for his terrific performances in the longest format of the game. Over the years, Rahul Dravid has become the backbone of the Indian cricket team. He has been grooming the youngsters for competitive games at the National Cricket Academy as coach of India A and Under-19 side. He has played a key role in the grooming of youngsters including Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant, and many more.
Recently, talking to Dilip Vengsarkar claimed that since the National Cricket Academy has been shut due to the ongoing pandemic and hence BCCI must seek Rahul Dravid’s help to turn things in favor of team India. He said:
“The BCCI must rush Dravid to Australia to help the team. No one can guide the batsmen better on how to play the moving ball in those conditions,” Vengsarkar told Times of India. “His presence will be a huge boost to the Indian team in the nets. In any case, the NCA has been shut due to Covid for the past nine months, leaving him with little to do. The Board can make a better use of Dravid by utilising his services to help the national team, which will be without skipper Virat Kohli from now (last three Tests)”
He added:
“Even if he has to serve a mandatory two-week quarantine period, he should be available for helping the Indian team at the nets before the third Test in Sydney, which will begin from January 7. It is time that Dravid is asked to be involved with the Indian team more,”
