Sunil Gavaskar Reveals Why Virat Kohli And Not Rohit Sharma Is The Most Impactful ODI Player

The current Indian skipper Virat Kohli is regarded as one of the best cricketers around the world. The fact that Virat wasn’t able to score a century in 2020 in the ODI format of the game became a huge topic of discussion after just-concluded India’s ODI tour in Australia. Despite this, Virat scored back-to-back fifties against the solid line-up in Australia.

Such has been the masterclass and impact of King Kohli in limited-overs cricket. He also went on to break the record of the master-blaster Sachin Tendulkar as he became the fastest cricketer to reach the 12000 ODI-run marks.

And because of the same, the former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar believes that Kohli is the player who has had the most impact in the ODI format of the game in the past decade.

Recently, during an interaction on Star Sports’ Cricket Connected, Sunil Gavaskar said that he believes that it’s not just about the stats and numbers but also about how Virat’s numbers has resulted in India winning the game. He said:

“I think if you look as an individual, then certainly it’s got to be Virat Kohli, because if you look at the number of matches he’s won for India when India has been chasing big scores,”

He added:

“I look at the impact a player has had, and not just the runs or wickets that he has taken, and in that aspect, you have got to say that in this decade it really has been Virat Kohli who has had the most impact on the matches that India has won.”

Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team will now be seen playing against Australia in the longest format of the game in the four-match Test series, which will begin from a day-night first Test in Adelaide which begins from December 17th.
