On Tuesday, during the third and final T20I match, Virat Kohli-led team India badly missed the presence of the ‘Dhoni Review System’ as the team was involved in a massive goof up on the Decision Review System.
The goof-up happened during the 11th over when Matthew Wade failed to properly flick a full-length delivery coming in towards bowled by T Natarajan. The ball went on to hit straight on to his pads but neither the bowler Natarajan nor the keeper KL Rahul thought of reviewing the on-decision.
Virat Kohli led team didn’t take a DRS call on time and later on when they asked for the DRS they had already seen the replay on the big screen.
What happened next is something rare. The Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, took the review which was initially accepted before being denied by the umpires. Well, as per the rule, a DRS call is invalid after the replay has been shown on the big screen.
Later, after the match, during a virtual press conference, Virat Kohli explained why he wasn’t allowed to take the review. He also admitted that such mistakes can turn costly for the team. He said:
“Yaa that LBW review was strange because we were still discussing whether the ball was going down or not and within 15 seconds the replay was on screen,”
He added:
“And we decided to go for the review but the umpire said nothing can be done. These mistakes shouldn’t be done at the highest level and in a very important game this could be very costly,”
