The skipper of Pakistan’s cricket team, Babar Azam paid an emotional tribute to the former Australian cricketer Dean Jones after his team Karachi Kings thrashed Lahore Qalandars to lift the Pakistan Super League trophy for the first time.

Dean Jones, the legendary cricketer, and commentator died suddenly in Mumbai, where he had been working as the broadcasters for the IPL after he suffered a cardiac arrest in September at the age of 59. Dean Jones previously coached Islamabad United to two of the first three PSL titles. For the just-concluded season of PSL, Dean Jones was appointed as Karachi’s coach. However, the season was abandoned immediately before the playoff stage due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Dean Jones was a legendary figure at the PSL as well, he was usually spotted writing notes in his famous red book in his team’s dugout.

Soon after Karachi Kings won their maiden PSL title, Babar Azam took to his Twitter and paid an emotional tribute to ‘coach’ Dean Jones. Sharing a picture of him and his team lifting the trophy, Babar Azam wrote:

“Deano, job done coach! Trophy
#Champions #KarachiKings”

“Forever in our hearts, Deano #HBLPSLV #PhirSeTayyarHain #MSvKK,”
