Sanjay Manjrekar is one of the most experienced commentators around the world. However, it was because of his controversial remarks on cricketers that he was dropped from the commentary panel by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCCI had just removed him just before the ODI series against South Africa which was eventually called off in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The former cricketer and commentator was under the scanner for a long time because of his controversial remarks, thus his exclusion didn’t come as a big surprise for the fans.
Later, just a month ago, Sanjay Manrekar had requested the BCCI to take him back in the commentary panel. He wrote to the BCCI and also promised to ‘adhere to the guidelines’. This was his second email to BCCI. He wrote:
“Respected members of the Apex Council, hope you all keeping well. You are already in receipt of the email I sent to explain my position as commentator. With the IPL dates announced, bcci.tv will pick its commentary panel soon. I will be happy to work as per the guidelines laid by you. After all, we are working on what is essentially your production. Last time may be there was not enough clarity on this issue. Thanks very much, Regards,”
Now as per the latest reports, seems like the Indian cricket board is not keen on rehiring Sanjay Manjrekar any time soon as a list of seven commentators has been revealed.
These commentators have been picked for the world-feed broadcasts includes some of the most experienced and loved names — Sunil Gavaskar, L Sivaramakrishnan, Murali Kartik, Deep Dasgupta, Rohan Gavaskar, Harsha Bhogle, and Anjum Chopra, according to Mumbai Mirror.
While Dasgupta and Kartik have been placed in the panel for Abu Dhabi matches while the rest have been placed in the panels for Dubai and Sharjah games.
Meanwhile, the tournament kickstart on 19th September in UAE and will be held across three venues -Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Dubai.
