Suresh Raina, who has been a batting mainstay in CSK, left everyone stunned after he sensationally announced his exit from the team for IPL 2020. The cricketer cited personal reasons before he returned back to India. Following his exit, a debate on his replacement as a vice-captain has started in the cricket fraternity.
Although CSK hasn’t revealed whether they are attempting to replace Suresh Raina in their squad or not, but if they opt to take that path, they have plenty of options on their plate already.
Here, we bring you three options for the position of vice-captain in Chennai Super Kings. Have a look:
1. Dwayne Bravo:
Dwayne Bravo, the West Indies superstar, has been associated with Chennai Super Kings since 2011. Over the years, Dwayne Bravo has become one of the main faces of the team along with MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina.
Besides having an experience of playing with CSK for a long time, the cricketer also has the experience of leading his West Indies team in one Test and seven ODI’s. He seems like an appropriate choice for the position of vice-captain in CSK.
2. Faf du Plessis:
When we are talking about experience, no one is as capable of replacing Suresh Raina as the vice-captain of Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020. Faf du Plessis’ records in leading his South African team to victory in limited-overs format has been incredible. Faf was appointed as T20I full-time captain of the South African cricket team in 2013 and was later named as the ODI captain in 2017. Under him, the South African cricket team made the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2014.
The association of the skipper MS Dhoni and Faf du Plessis as the vice-captain will be really interesting to watch out.
3. Harbhajan Singh:
Unlike the other two options, Harbhajan Singh has no experience of leading a team as a skipper. However, he can be a perfect choice for the position of vice-captain if they are looking for an experienced Indian player. And among the Indian cricketers in the team, Harbhajan Singh is the most experienced one.
Harbhajan Singh has been a true match-winner for team India and CSK over the years as he not only causes damage with the ball but can occasionally give a run for the money to the opposition with his big hitting at the end.
