Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Suresh Raina have shocked the cricket world by suddenly announcing their retirement from international cricket. Both Chennai Super Kings players recently met each other for the training camp ahead of IPL 2020. Dhoni shared a special IGTV video on his social media account to shock the world with his retirement.
MS Dhoni played his last ODI match against New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup, while Suresh Raina had been out of the Indian team for quite a while. The fans were optimistic about their future in international cricket because both veterans had trained very hard for their comebacks. Raina had even mentioned in his interviews that he wanted to play for the Indian team at the number four position in the upcoming T20 World Cups.
The Indian cricket team fans also wanted Dhoni to sign off with a World Cup win in 2019. However, that could not happen. Hence, the expectations were high from the rest of the Indian team to give Dhoni a proper farewell with a T20 World Cup in 2021, which was scheduled to happen in India. People also felt that Dhoni could play the 2023 World Cup for India.
Suresh Raina still had a few years of cricket left in him, but now that both players have announced their retirement, the fans have no other option but to respect their decision and bid them adieu. Twitterati did not expect this announcement so suddenly and as expected, most of the Indian cricketing community is shocked with this declaration from the CSK stars. The good thing about this development that is that Raina and Dhoni will stay compete in IPL 2020, which means the fans will get an opportunity to see them recreate their magic, possibly for one last time.
