MS Dhoni, the former Indian skipper is regarded as one of the most successful skippers to have ever played for team India. As the skipper of his team, MS Dhoni had a very difficult job to pull off — from setting up the field to changing bowlers as per his strategies, MS Dhoni was always game aware, and he had to do all this while fulfilling the responsibility behind the stumps.
Even after stepping down from the position of captaincy, MS Dhoni continued to give his inputs to the new skipper Virat Kohli, which always worked wonders for Team India.
Recently, in an interview, Kuldeep Yadav recalled how MS Dhoni helped him and his fellow spin partner, Yuzvendra Chahal, during the matches from behind the stumps. Praising Dhoni, Kuldeep explained how the presence of MS Doni has always been very crucial. He said:
“Whenever I played with Dhoni, I never felt the absence of my coach, because he would speak to me like one and give me a lot of advice. He would always tell me to focus on spinning the ball, and from behind the wickets, he would release a lot of pressure,”
He added:
“Sometimes you are only focused on bowling and not the fielding, so he would set the field from behind the stumps. He would tell you the little things about what to do in the game before the match. As a senior player, he has supported me and (Yuzvendra) Chahal a lot and handled us very well. The captain (Virat Kohli) was always there for us but his presence was also very crucial,”
Besides this, Kuldeep Yadav also recalled the advice Anil Kumble gave him before his Test debut. He said:
“On the day before my Test debut, he told me at lunch that you have to take five wickets. I couldn’t respond for a few moments but then said I’ll definitely do it,”
