Former West Indies skipper, Daren Sammy recently created a controversy with his statements after he opened up about his experiences of racism in cricket. Sammy alleged that he was racially abused during his stint in IPL in the Sunrise Hyderabad’s dressing room. In a video, Darren Sammy had said:
“I have played all over the world and I have been loved by many people, I have embraced all dressing rooms where I have played, so I was listening to Hasan Minhaj as to how some of the people in his culture describe black people,”
On Thursday, Daren Sammy took to his twitter and wrote how he had a conversation with one of those guys who used to call him ‘Kaalu’ and expressed how he is relieved that he operated from a place of love. He wrote:
“I’m pleased to say that I’ve had a really interesting conversation with one of the guys and we are looking at ways to educate rather than focusing on the negatives. My brother reassured me that he operated from a place of love and I believe him.”

The tweet soon went viral and was flooded with reactions from twitterati. Bollywood actress Swara Bhasker, who is very active on social media and is very vocal about her opinions on every matter, also took to her twitter and slammed the players of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Swara even asked Sunrisers Hyderabad’s players to ‘say sorry to Daren officially’ for calling him ‘Kaalu’. She wrote:
“Dear @darensammy88 if someone used the N-word at a black person & said they “operated from a place of love” what would u say? Same with the word ‘Kaalu’ & it’s variations. And team members of @SunRisers. Show some decency & spine #SaySorryToDaren officially! #thatsnotcricket @IPL”

The tweet soon caught the attention of Daren Sammy, who was quick to come up with a brilliant reply to Swara Bhasker’s tweet. In his tweet, Sammy wrote that he is confident and proud to be black and one should only apologize if they feel sorry about something. He wrote:
“Don’t get me wrong I’m not condoning what was done/said. I’m saying let’s use this opportunity to educate each other so it doesn’t happen again. One can only apologize if he/she feels wrong about something. I’m confident&proud to be black. That will never change,”
