The memories of the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007 are still afresh in everyone’s minds. The tournament was filled with many memorable performances given by the cricketers of team India. However, not many had given team India a chance to win the tournament. Many thought that there’s nothing to worry about if team India loses the match as the team had already performed above their expectations.
However, things changed as soon as Yuvraj Singh smashed six-sixes against England. This performance from Yuvraj Singh boosted the Indian cricketers and then there were no turning backs. Indian cricketers gave back to back thrilling performances and won the T20 World Cup trophy.
Sreesanth was also a part of Team India during the 2007 World Cup and he came off a brilliant game against South Africa. He played the best game of his career during the semi-final of World Cup 2007 and returned with the sensational figures of 2/12 in his four overs with a maiden.
Sreesanth’s aggression was known to all, however, it was MS Dhoni who had asked him to show his aggression where it is required the most.
Recently, in an interview, Sreesanth went down the memory lane and recalled the moment and claimed that MS Dhoni’s remark got fired up at the right time and it worked wonders for India. He revealed:
“Dhoni bhai ne bhi chadhaya tha uss match se pehle. Wo bole ki yaar tu idhar udhar aggression dikhata hai ab Australia ke khilaf dikha aggression. I think it was more of a chaavi wala thing and I got fired at the right time,”
(This roughly translates to: “Dhoni bhai had also geed me up before the match saying that you show your aggression everywhere. Now show it against Australia. And I got fired up at the right time.”)
