Robin Uthappa Revealed How MS Dhoni OutSmarted Everyone In The 2007 T20 WC

Robin Uthappa might be a veteran in the Indian Premier League but as far as his international career is concerned it never really took off. Despite making his international debut in the year 2006, Robin Uthappa has only played 46 ODIs and 13 T20Is so far. He last played his international match in the year 2015. He was also a part of the 2007 World Cup-winning squad. In his entire career, Robin Uthappa has bowled only three balls.

While the two of them were in the ODIs, the third one came during the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa. During the mega tournament, Robin Uthappa was backed to hit the stumps in a bowl-out against Pakistan. Robin bowled the third delivery and helped Team India win by 3-0.
Recently, during a recent podcast on Rajasthan Royals, Robin went down the memory lane and gave full credits to Mahendra Singh Dhoni for India’s victory in the mega event. Robin revealed that MS Dhoni, who was the captaining Team India for the first time back then, stood behind the stumps and helped bowlers in aiming successfully at the stumps. He said:
“One of the things that MS [Dhoni] did really well, and that he did different from what the Pakistan ‘keeper did was, where he stood behind the stumps,”

He added:
“The Pakistan ‘keeper (Kamran Akmal) was standing where a WK usually stands. A few feet back and besides the stump — just alongside the stump. But MS was (sitting) right behind the stumps and that made it so much easier for us. We just had to bowl at MS and it gave us the best chance to hit the wickets. That’s all we did,”
Meanwhile, Robin Uthappa was all set to play for his franchise Rajasthan Royals in the 2020 version of the Indian Premier League, which has now been suspended because of the Coronavirus pandemic.
