Rohit Sharma kickstarted the game with KL Rahul as Shikhar Dhawan got ruled out of the action having injured his shoulder during the last match. The Indian opener managed to slam his 29th ODI century, which was also his 8th against Australia.
Initially, Rohit Sharma was timing the ball sweetly early in the innings itself giving India a good start but slowly he started hitting some big shots, smashing the Australian bowlers to all the corners of the ground. Before KL Rahul was dismissed with an LBW by Ashton Agar, the duo added 69 runs together.

Then Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli anchored the Indian innings together and played an absolutely amazing partnership of 137 runs. This was the 18th 100-run stand between the pair. This partnership turned the tables for India.
Rohit Sharma scored 119 runs off 128 balls smashing 8 fours and 6 sixes before he was dismissed. On the other hand, Virat Kohli scored 89 runs off 91 balls.
After the match, Rohit Sharma was all praises for the Indian skipper in the post-match ceremony. Rohit Sharma opened up on the strategy between him and Virat Kohli and praising him, he said:
“Once KL got out, it needed nobody better than the captain himself. The talk we had in the middle was that one of us wanted to keep going. At no stage, did we want the momentum to go towards the opposition, I was middling the ball well, and I said I would be the one to take the chances. Days like this, if it comes off, it looks good. If we had lost a wicket in the middle, it would have been different.”
Praising the bowling attack of Australia, Rohit said:
“Australia always comes up with a good bowling attack. Their fast bowlers always challenge you with their variety and skills. In the first two games, I was trying to do something different, and it didn’t come off. Today I just wanted to be there, and I was able to stay till 35th, 36th over.”
