While Kohli continues to grow in stature, the Indian skipper is way ahead of his contemporaries. He’s well and truly on his way to achieving greatness that can be recognized worldwide.
One of the things that unite both the Indian stalwarts in their ability to perform against the best in the world. While Sachin took pride in putting his best foot forward against the world-beaters, Kohli is no different in motivating him to give his best shot amid most trying circumstances.
A trivia that unites Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli
Australian cricket has been one of the superpowers in world cricket. Known for producing some of the best cricketers of all-time, performances against Australia are often judged as a parameter in a cricketer’s playing career. Both Sachin and Virat have had played some of their best innings played against Australia.
However, there’s an interesting stat that connects both the Indian batsman. Sachin and Kohli completed their 1000 Test runs against Australia on December 28. Playing in a Boxing Day Test, both achieved the milestone at the same age of 26 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. However, what is even more intriguing is that it took them 19 innings in 11 matches each to cross the 1000-run mark against the mighty Aussies.
When Sachin claimed 1000 Test runs against Australia, it included five centuries and two fifties. Similar was the case for Virat when he went past the glorious landmark during India’s tour to Australia in 2014. Virat Kohli currently boasts of 1604 runs against Australia in 19 matches including seven centuries with a personal best of 169 in 2014.
On the other hand, Tendulkar ended his Test career with 3630 runs scored 39 games against Australia with an individual best of 241* at Sydney in 2004.
