Gautam Gambhir’s Subtle Dig At MS Dhoni: It’s 2nd April 2020, which means nine years have passed since India became the first nation to win the Cricket World Cup on its home soil. MS Dhoni’s men created history with their unbelievable performances throughout the tournament. In the match against Bangladesh, Virender Sehwag and Virat Kohli registered match-winning centuries.

At the same time, Sachin Tendulkar stole the show with centuries against England and South Africa. Yuvraj Singh’s heroics helped India win the games against Ireland, Netherlands and West Indies as they qualified for the quarterfinals.

Once again, Yuvraj came to the team’s rescue as his clean hitting took India to the semifinals. In the semifinal match against Pakistan, Suresh Raina, Tendulkar and the Indian bowlers did their job to perfection as the Men in Blue defeated their arch-rivals in a game that 100 crore fans watched live on TV. Next, the Indian team headed to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where they clashed with the co-hosts, Sri Lanka.

Zaheer Khan’s dream spell got India off to a good start. Still, Mahela Jayawardene’s hundred and Thisara Perera’s cameo saved the day for Sri Lanka. They set a target of 275 runs for the home team. Lasith Malinga’s double strike put India on the backfoot.

However, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli steadied the ship with a solid partnership. Kohli departed soon, and the out of form MS Dhoni surprised the fans by walking out to bat ahead of Yuvraj.

In what turned out to be a masterstroke, Dhoni turned the game in India’s favor with an unbeaten 91. He finished off the game in style with a six off Nuwan Kulasekara’s delivery as India lifted the World Cup after 28 years.

The entire cricket universe is cherishing the golden memories today. Still, Gambhir feels that the fans are over-obsessed with the six that Dhoni. Instead, they should praise the entire team. Here is what Gambhir tweeted:

Just a reminder @ESPNcricinfo: #worldcup2011 was won by entire India, entire Indian team & all support staff. High time you hit your obsession for a SIX. pic.twitter.com/WPRPQdfJrV
