Stump-Mic Cables Denied Indian Women Cricket Team A Run-Out And Fans Now Questioning ICC

Stump-Mic Cables Denied Indian Women Cricket Team A Run-Out And Fans Aren’t Happy About It: The Indian women’s team locked horns with Australia in the final of the T20I tri-series today where the home side overcame a challenge from the women in blue courtesy of Jess Jonassen’s five-wicket haul. The Australians batted first in the high-pressure match and Beth Mooney’s fantastic knock of 71 runs helped Australia post a total of 155 runs on the board. Ashleigh Gardener and Meg Lanning contributed 26 runs each to the team’s total while Rachael Haynes played a quickfire cameo of 18 runs in the end.

For the Indian team, Deepti Sharma and Rajeshwari Gayakwad scalped two wickets each. Chasing the target of 156 runs in 20 overs, Smriti Mandhana’s heroics provided India with a solid start. The opening batswoman played a knock of 66 runs which comprised 12 fours.

Unfortunately, she did not get enough support from her teammates as they all bowed down to Jonassen. Even Harmanpreet Kaur lost her wicket for just 14 runs. India lost all their wickets for 144 runs as Australia won the match by 11 runs.

Stump mic cable hurts India’s chances

Talking about the reasons why India lost, the stump mic cables also played a role in India’s defeat. During the 14th over of the Australian innings, the home team’s score read 96/2. Arundhati Reddy was the bowler for India while Lanning and Mooney were batting in the middle for the Aussies. Lanning was on the score of 18 when she placed one ball towards mid-off and the Indian team almost ran her out. However, the stump mic cable came in the way of the fielder executing the direct hit.

The ball was going to hit the stumps but there could be no connection between the two because of the stump mic cable. This partnership added 11 runs (which was ultimately the difference between the two teams) more and India could have gained the momentum with a direct hit run out. Hence, it can be said that the stump mic cable played a major role in India’s defeat.
