James Anderson’s record: It is not usual for us cricket fans to savour a career that spans for 18 long years. One such glittering career came to an end in 2013 when Sachin Tendulkar retired from the game.
Another long-spanning career that has been bedecked in laurels and fivers is the one of James Anderson. The 39-year-old fast bowler ripped through the Indian batting line-up as he claimed another fiver to trigger a batting collapse and a comfortable India was seen tottering.
He started his haul with the big wicket of Rohit Sharma that bore witness to an absolute peach barreling through the defence of Hitman. His next big fish was Cheteshwar Pujara who could barely read the swing belted out by Jimmy.
He came back on an even stronger note today morning to claim Ajinkya Rahane and later cleaned up the tail by removing a dogged Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah. Even in the preceding match, he claimed a 4-fer alongside Ollie Robinson’s fiver.
Tonight’s fiver, however, scripted a historic record for Anderson as he became the bowler with the longest gap between his five-wicket haul and his latest fiver in Test cricket. The previous record was held by West Indian spinner, Lance Gibbs whose gap read 17 years and 256 days.

Anderson claimed the feat 18 years and 81 days apart between the two hallowed five-wicket hauls. In the last match, he also surpassed Kumble in the number of Test wickets claimed and he is still going strong.
The resilience that this man has shown over the years has been absolutely fascinating and he continues to torment batters all across the globe with his superb brand of fast bowling.
England has a big day tomorrow as they clash against India for the third Test of the series and they are still 245 runs behind. If the English bowlers can manage to pick up a couple of early wickets, especially the one of Root, India may very well be en route to their path of glory.
