India’s young opening batsman KL Rahul batted brilliantly in the first innings of the ongoing fifth Test between India and put India in a good position at the end of Day 3’s play in Chennai.
At the top of the order, Rahul formed a good partnership with Parthiv Patel, but India lost two 3 wickets quickly. Cheteshwar Pujara (16) and Virat Kohli (19) fell cheaply and all the pressure was on the young pair of KL Rahul and Karun Nair. Rahul and Nair formed a 166-run partnership for the 6th wicket and put India in a strong position at the end of day’s play.
Rahul faced 311 deliveries in his eight-and-a-half hour knock, hitting 16 fours and three sixes, and scored 199 runs. But the young Karnataka batsman suffered a heartbreak as he was dismissed for 199 after shouldering responsibility to guide India’s solid reply to England’s first innings 477 all out on the third day of the final Test against England on Sunday.
