West Indies won the opening ODI match beating India by 8 wickets with 13  balls remaining. Hetmyers’s powerful knock of 139 runs helped turn the tables for West Indies and chase the target of 288 runs.

After a stunning show during the recently concluded T20I series, the fans are expecting from Men in Blue to continue their winning spree in the ODI series against West Indies as well. However, the Indian squad failed to stop the batsmen of West Indies from smashing them to all the corners of the ground.

In the first innings, the Indian team had a poor start with the wickets of top-performers coming down one after another. Even Virat Kohli, who has been giving consistently great performances was dismissed on a single-digit score.

However, when everyone else failed to score runs, Rishabh Pant found his missing rhythm and gave a brilliant performance alongside his partner on-field Shreyas Iyer.  Rishabh Pant went on to score 71 runs in 69 balls. He smashed 7 fours and 1 six. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer scored 70 runs in 88 balls smashing 5 fours and 1 six.

After the match, Virat Kohli was all praises for Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and West Indies’ Shimron Hetmyer. Heaping praises for them, Kohli said:

“Very good signs for us with the performances of Iyer and Pant. Myself and Rohit not clicking today gave a good opportunity for the younsters to stitch together a partnership. You try to go in with as many options as you can. We thought six bowling options would be enough. We thought six bowling options would be enough. I don’t think pitch changed drastically, they batted brilliantly. The spinners were getting help but they put pressure on our spinners brilliantly. Hetmyer’s innings was outstanding,”

Seems like bowling will be a great worry for team India in the second ODI against West Indies, considering the form of West Indies’ batsmen. The second ODI between India and West Indies will take place will be played in Vizag on Wednesday.
