The IPL 2023 auction is set to be held on December 16th. Since it was a mega-auction last time, this will be a mini-auction with no retention limits. Teams will release players who they don’t want and look to fill holes in the upcoming mini-auction.
Chennai Super Kings are expected to let go of a number of players after the franchise finished 9th in the 10-team tournament in IPL 2022.
Several talented youngsters will be brought up at the auction table and CSK would want to buy some to strengthen their squad as they’d want to push for one more title in what is most likely to be MS Dhoni’s last IPL season.
Here are 3 young players who CSK can target in the IPL 2023 mini-auction:

Cameron Green
Should he enter the auction, Cameron Green will set the auction stage on fire and you can expect fierce bidding wars for the Australian seam-bowling all-rounder – the skillset which has been in most in-demand in all IPL auctions; Green is expected to bag at least 7 crores.
On the tour of India a month ago, Green opened for the first time in international cricket and took the Indian bowlers to the cleaners. He smashed 61off 30 balls in Mohali and 52 off 21 in Hyderabad to gain the eyeballs of fans and IPL franchises. He’s also been added to Australia’s T20 World Cup squad.
Green can also bowl the hard lengths very well. He’s 23 and there’s immense potential to be unlocked in Green. CSK can do that with their world-renowned think-tank if they buy them in the IPL 2023 mini-auction.
Tom Curran
Dwayne Bravo is aging and has already retired from international cricket. Bravo recently turned 39 and he might retire from the IPL after next year. CSK would want to have someone who’s got Bravo’s skillset, though not of his quality because that’s hard to find these days.
One player who comes in with similar characteristics as Bravo – a death-overs specialist who can hit runs lower down the order – is England’s Tom Curran. Tom Curran is a fine death-overs bowlers and travels across the world playing his trade in franchise cricket. He’s played in 3 IPL seasons for three different teams; CSK could be his fourth and where he finally finds big success.
Karthik Meiyappan
22-year-old Karthik Meiyappan is the latest leg-spinner on the block who hogged the headlines with his hat-trick for the UAE against Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup 2022. Karthik Meiyappan has already worked with CSK and RCB teams as a net bowler when the IPL 2020 and 2021 seasons were in the UAE. So you can expect CSK to bid for Karthik Meiyappan in the upcoming IPL 2023 mini-auction.
