Chennai Super Kings have made the move to finally part ways with Ravindra Jadeja as reports emerge of the 4-time champions looking for a 2-to-1 trade deal with the Delhi Capitals.
The strife between Jadeja and CSK seems to have grown to such an extent that the all-rounder is steadfast on leaving the franchise. Jadeja was sacked mid-season in IPL 2022 as CSK’s captain, his maiden captain stint in the IPL, after CSK lost 6 of their first 8 matches, and the reins were handed back to MS Dhoni, who has also confirmed to lead the franchise next year as well.
CSK demand 2 players from DC in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja
According to the latest reports, the Stephen Fleming-coached Chennai Super Kings have asked the Delhi Capitals to trade Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja.
It has already been reported that the Capitals are open to releasing/trading Shardul Thakur, the seam-bowling all-rounder who was bought for 10.75 crore but failed to deliver during the tournament. He scored only 120 runs last season and although he took 15 wickets, the 31-year-old had an economy rate of close to 10 with an average of 31.
However, it would be difficult to convince DC to let go off Axar Patel as well. DC had retained Axar Patel before the IPL 2022 mega-auction, and now Patel is a crucial part of the Indian team. Axar is currently a member of India’s XI at the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, as a like-for-like replacement for the injured Ravindra Jadeja.
So, it would be interesting to see how things unfold in the coming weeks as Jadeja seems to have made up his mind that he doesn’t want to play for CSK anymore after being sacked as their captain mid-season. However, with CSK demanding both Thakur and Axar, it seems unlikely that the trade will go forward, even though DC also needs a proper spin-bowling all-rounder after the under-par show of Lalit Yadav, especially with the ball.
The trading window will close around mid-November, one month before the IPL 2023 mini-auction, which will be staged in mid-December.
