KKR vs SRH: A massive 54-run win for the Kolkata Knight Riders in Pune over the Sunrisers Hyderabad keeps them alive in the playoff race. Shreyas Iyer’s side now have 12 points in 13 matches with a good nrr of +0.160.

Kane Williamson’s team remain on 10 points from 12 matches and have now lost their last 5 games; courtesy of this big loss, their nrr has fallen to -0.270 making their playoff chances nosedive.

Andre Russell bagged the Man of the Match award for his scintillating all-rounder performance. First, he smashed 49 runs off 28 balls to propel KKR’s total to 177. Then with the ball, the lanky West Indian registered brilliant figures of 3/22 in his four overs.

After losing Venkatesh Iyer early on, Nitish Rana and Ajinkya Rahana played attacking cricket to take 55 runs from the powerplay. But Umran Malik’s introduction saw them both being dismissed in the same over, followed by Shreyas Iyer and Rinku Singh departing for cheap scores.

When it looked like KKR may end up with a par total, Sam Billings and Andre Russell changed the tide. While Billings played the second fiddle role, for his 34 from 29 balls, Russell wasn’t holding himself back and took the attack to all SRH bowlers. In the end, he smacked three sixes in the last over from Washington Sundar to take KKR to an above-par score.

Abhishek Sharma started well for SRH, scoring 43 runs off 28 balls, with the help of 4 fours and a couple of sixes. However, Kane Williamson, the SRH skipper, continued his poor form, scoring 9 runs from 17 balls and was castled by Russell. After Abhishek Sharma’s wicket, SRH never got going in the chase.

Rahul Tripathi, Nicholas Pooran, and Sundar managed only single-digit scores. And while Aiden Markram hit some sweetly-timed sixes, it was always going to be a matter of time before he too gets out. Apart from Russell’s three-for, Tim Southee took two wickets.

Netizens trolled SRH badly for their fifth loss in a row while hailing KKR for their victory.
