DC vs RR: A barbaric, non-stop power-hitting display from Mitchell Marsh helped Delhi Capitals register an emphatic 8-wicket win over the Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday evening at the DY Patil Stadium. Though DC remain at the fifth spot with this win, they now have 12 points in as many games and are well and alive in the playoff race.
Sanju Samson’s team, now with 14 points in 12 matches, have now lost three of their last four matches and perhaps their wheels are coming off and their vulnerabilities, which were masked by Jos Buttler’s brilliance earlier, are now being exposed.
Chetan Sakariya got rid of Buttler in the third over of RR’s innings, giving DC an upper hand early on. And while Ravichandran Ashwin, promoted to number 3, batted nicely, also registering his maiden IPL half-century, was involved in two sizeable partnerships – 43 (32) with Yashasvi Jaiswal and 53 (36) with Devdutt Padikkal – RR’s innings seemed on for a par total unless there was a brutal late assault.

Unfortunately for RR that late assault didn’t come as Sanju Samson was dismissed for just 6 and Riyan Parag for 9. DC pacers kept the lid on the scoring rate and restricted RR to 160 with Sakariya, Nortje and Mitchell Marsh bagging two wickets each.
Delhi’s chase got off to a poor start with KS Bharat dismissed for a two-ball duck by Trent Boult. However, it was all the David Warner-Mitchell Marsh show as the Aussie pair took down every single RR bowler, with Warner preferring to attack the spinners while Marsh walloped the pacers for fun.
Marsh clattered 89 runs from 52 balls, thumping down 5 fours and 7 sixes, and while Marsh got out Warner saw off the chase having played the second fiddle role for his 52 runs from 41 balls; Rishabh Pant smoked a couple of sixes in the end to have a hit too.
As Mitchell Marsh finally came good in the IPL after years of wait – mostly missing due to injuries before or during the previous seasons – memes galore on Twitter.
