IPL 2022: Ruturaj Gaikwad Equals Sachin Tendulkar In This Big IPL Record

Ruturaj Gaikwad finally got into his groove in the IPL 2022 and produced his best innings of the seas, slamming 99 runs from 57 balls against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at this home ground in Pune. His entertaining knock included 6 fours and 6 sixes that demoralized the SRH bowlers as CSK approached the total of 200.

En route this innings, Gaikwad equaled Sachin Tendulkarβ€˜s long-standing record in the IPL of being the fastest batsman to 1000 runs in the tournament. Tendulkar took 31 innings to breach the 1000-run mark in the IPL, and on Sunday evening Gaikwad too completed 1000 IPL runs in his 31st innings.

Next on the list of being the quickest in completing 1000 IPL runs after Tendulkar and Gaikwad are Suresh Raina, who took 34 knocks, followed by Rishabh Pant and Devdutt Padikkal with 35 innings for each batter.

Gaikwad, the Orange Cap winner of last season, now has amassed 1076 runs at an average of 39 while striking at 133. He has notched up 9 half-centuries and a century. He could have added one to his century column but fell just a solitary run short.

Ruturaj Gaikwad had had a poor start to his IPL 2022 season: he registered six scores of less than 20 in his first 7 innings with one fifty and was averaging just 15 till half the season. He then dragged himself into a laborious 30-run knock off 27 balls versus Punjab in a game that CSK lost by 11 runs.

However, the opener has got his season on track – maybe it would have something to do with MS Dhoni taking back the captaincy – as he reined into the SRH bowlers.

In the past couple of seasons as well, Gaikwad had had a poor start to his campaign with low scores before he gets on a run-scoring spree. He had a breakthrough season last year, when he finished as the leading run-scorer, playing a significant role in CSK’s fourth IPL title win.
