IPL 2022: Kuldeep Yadav Names His Choice For The Purple Cap Award

The renaissance is Kul-Cha is on the roll. Yuzvendra Chahal is the leading wicket-taker of the IPL 2022 so far, with 18 wickets, and is followed by Kuldeep Yadav who has taken 17 wickets. The leg-spinning duo who are not even the first-choice spinners in the Indian team now have announced their revival in some style.

From 2017 to the 2019 World Cup, Chahal and Kuldeep had been a dangerous pair for the Indian team, their trump cards then. But both lost form after that and were in and out with other all-rounders and spinners emerging. Fans are elated to see both the wrist-spinners doing well in the IPL which will help their return to the Indian team.

Kuldeep, playing for Delhi Capitals now, said that he truly wants Chahal to win the Purple Cap, adding that the Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner is like his brother and had supported him immensely when he was injured.

“There has never been competition with him (Chahal). He has encouraged me a lot. He has been like a big brother and stood by me during my bad times. He used to talk to me constantly even when I was injured. I sincerely wish that he got the Purple Cap because he has been bowling exceptionally over the past three-four years. He deserves it,” Kuldeep Yadav said after bagging the Player of the Match award vs KKR on Thursday.

Kuldeep, in particular, has endured a really difficult time. After being dropped from the Indian team, he lost place in the Kolkata Knight Riders’ eleven – in IPL 2020, he picked one wicket in five games and then didn’t get to play a single match in IPL 2021 when mid-season he also suffered a knee injury that put him out of the game for months.

The chinaman has returned strongly this season, including taking 8 wickets in 2 matches versus KKR. He asserted that he’s become strong mentally after being down in the doldrums over the last couple of years.

“I might have become a better bowler, but I am mentally stronger than before. When you fail in life you pick what you can improve on and that is something I had to improve. I don’t get scared of failing now,” he added.
