IPL 2022: Chetan Sakariya Revealed The Story Behind His ‘Goku’ Celebration

Left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya got his first game of IPL 2022, for his new franchise Delhi Capitals, on Thursday night against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium.

Having impressed everyone with his swing bowling for Rajasthan Royals last season, when he snapped up 14 scalps, Sakariya was bought for 4.2 crore by the Capitals at the mega-auction but remained on the sidelines for the first half of the season with Khaleel Ahmed getting the nod.

He came into the eleven on Thursday after Khaleel Ahmed had pulled his hamstring during the previous match versus Rajasthan Royals. Chetan Sakariya struck straightaway, castling KKR opener Aaron Finch, giving DC an early upper hand.

After dismissing the Aussie skipper, Sakariya celebrated with his trademark ‘Wakanda Forever’ style which he had used last season, and also followed it up with a ‘Dragon Ball Z’ Goku celebration, putting two fingers on his forehead and closing his eyes. Fans loved these celebrations from the 24-year-old Saurashtra seamer.
After the game, in a chat with teammate leg-spinner Kuldeep Yadav, Sakariya revealed that he performed this celebration remembering his late father, who had sadly passed away last year.
“It was an emotional celebration. This was for my father because he always wanted me to dismiss an international batter by getting him bowled. If I used to pick wickets through some other ways, like caught, he used to tell me to dislodge the stumps. It was as if I was communicating with my father and telling him that I achieved it,” Sakariya said in a video uploaded by the IPL Twitter handle.

Sakariya completed the match with figures of 1/17 in his three overs. It remains to be seen whether DC drop Chetan Sakariya when Khaleel is fit.
Kuldeep Yadav was the Man of the Match for his superb bowling figures of 4/14 in his three-over spell, which included the wickets of Shreyas Iyer and Andre Russell. KKR managed a below-par score of 146 which DC chased down with 6 balls to spare.
