Here’s Why Ricky Ponting Broke 3-4 Remote Controls During Isolation: Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals suffered a 15-run defeat in their last match against Rajasthan Royals last week. It was a high-scoring game, where Delhi had to chase a set target of 223 runs to win at the Wankhede Stadium, however, they were restricted to 207/8 by Rajasthan Royals.
An ugly controversy also erupted during that game when Delhi needed 36 off the final over and all their hopes were fanned when Rovman Powell smashed Obed McCoy for three consecutive sixes off the first three deliveries.

The third six came off a high full toss from McCoy and the on-field umpires ruled the delivery wasn’t above the waist and decided not to call a no-ball. A no-ball at that would have given Delhi an extra run and a free-hit on the ball as well. DC dug-out, especially the captain Rishabh Pant was visibly very upset.
Pant had asked batters Rovmen Powell and Kuldeep Yadav to walk off the field over a no-ball decision. Not just this, Pant sent coach Pravin Amre to protest the umpire’s decision not to award a no-ball.
Meanwhile, DC’s head coach Ricky Ponting, who wasn’t a part of the dugout due to Covid-19 concerns, has finally opened up about the game. Ricky Ponting had been in a five-day quarantine after one of his family members had tested positive for the Coronavirus. In a release from Delhi Capitals, Ponting said:
“It’s nice to be back outside again. Frustrating (not to travel with the team). I broke 3-4 remote controls.3 or 4 bottles of water might have got thrown into the wall,”
“When you are on the sidelines being a coach and you can’t control what’s happening in the middle, that’s hard enough. When you are not on the sidelines, and sending text messages every over, saying ‘do this, do that, do this’. It got a little more frustrating,”
Ponting admitted that it was “frustrating” to watch the game for him. He said:
“It was frustrating. I think I broke three or four remote controls and a few bottles of water might have got thrown into the walls and things like that (laughs). When you’re on the side-lines, being a coach and you can’t control what’s happening out in the middle, that’s hard enough, but when you’re not actually at the ground, it can get a little more frustrating,”
