IPL 2022: Ruturaj Gaikwad Got Trolled For His Golden Duck

After a brilliant knock of 73 runs in 48 balls versus Gujarat Titans, albeit in a losing cause, it felt that Ruturaj Gaikwad was back in his form of last season and was expected to carry that on for the remainder of the season, for he had had a dismal start to his campaign in the first five matches.

However, the Chennai Super Kings opener was dragged back to the ground by Daniel Sams, the Mumbai Indians handed Gaikwad a golden duck on Thursday evening at the DY Patil Stadium in the El Clásico of the IPL.

CSK bowlers had restricted the MI batters to a total of 155 and it was now upon the batters to chase it down as the defending champions looked for only their second win of the tournament.

However, they were off to a poor start as Ruturaj Gaikwad slashed a back-of-length delivery from Sams, angled across the right-hander from over the wicket angle, straight to Tilak Varma at point. A first-ball duck for Gaikwad – his fourth single-digit score in 7 innings this season – saw MI right back in the game as Rohit Sharma’s side look to defend a low total.

This is how Gaikwad’s scores read for the season so far: 0, 1, 1, 16, 17, 73, 0; his average of 15.42 is the worst among all the CSK batters who have batted in at least 4 innings this season.

Before the IPL 2022, Gaikwad got one game against the West Indies, in which he managed only 4 runs before missing out on the Sri Lanka series due to injury. Fans were expecting the Maharashtra opener to have a ballistic season this year to strengthen his case for a spot in India’s T20I eleven. However, with his performances so far those calls have died down.

Expectedly, with another failure, Ruturaj Gaikwad faced the wrath of fans and social media and the youngster was heavily trolled for his golden duck:
