Here’s Why Chris Jordan Bowled The Last Over Against GT: A 3-wicket defeat to Gujarat Titans, who chased down 170 with one ball to spare and without the services of Hardik Pandya, now sees Chennai Super Kings all but out of the tournament with just one win in 6 matches.
The Titans were reduced to 88/5 by Maheesh Theekshana and Mukesh Choudhary’s opening burst followed by a wicket each for Jadeja and Bravo. However, it was David Miller who stood tall in the chase dragging it to the death overs when Rashid Khan turned the game on its head with his blitzkrieg of a knock.

With 48 required off the last three overs, Rashid smoked Chris Jordan for three sixes and a four, taking 25 runs in the 18th over. Bravo conceded 10 runs in the 19th but also got rid of Rashid Khan balancing the scales.
With 13 needed off the last over, now, CSK skipper Jadeja had a decision to make: about who should bowl the last over. His options were: Chris Jordan, Jadeja himself, or Choudhary who had gone for 18 runs in 3 overs.
The CSK captain went with Jordan, who started the last over well with two dots before it went haywire for Jordan and CSK as Miller tonked him for a six which was followed by a waist-high no-ball; the free hit was slapped away for a boundary and then Miller finished things off with a couple.

When asked about why he opted for Jordan to bowl the last over despite going expensive in the 18th, Jadeja reasoned: “I think CJ is an experienced guy so I thought let me go with him because he can bowl yorkers but unfortunately it did not happen today. That is the beauty of T20 cricket.”
“We started brilliantly, first six overs were good but credit to Miller, he plays a good innings. When we batted, the ball was gripping and the ball was holding a little but so thought that 169 was par but we did not execute our plans in the last five overs,” the CSK captain added.
The one major positive for CSK is that opener Ruturaj Gaikwad is back in form. Gaikwad scored 73 in 48 balls and held CSK’s innings when they lost a couple of early wickets.
CSK’s next match is against the bottom-placed Mumbai Indians, who are itching for their first win.
