Dot. Wicket. Dot. Wicket. Wicket. Wicket (Run-out). Umran Malik didn’t let Punjab Kings score a single run in the 20th over of their innings. He rattled them with sheer pace regularly clocking over 140s and touching high 150s, finishing his game with brilliant bowling figures of 4/28.
The Punjab Kings are known for their attacking intent this season, however, they perhaps didn’t think of Umran Malik’s extreme pace when they decided to take him on. Jitesh Sharma was the pacer’s first victim, a classic dismissal regarded by bowlers of high pace. Jitesh tried to pull a short ball from Malik but could only manage a top edge and the bowler ran forward quickly to catch it.
Odean Smith got out similarly. Short ball, tried to pull and send it out of the ground. Top edge, taken comfortably by Malik.
The next two wickets – those of Rahul Chahar and Vaibhav Arora – further showcased the improvements in his control of line and length Malik has made in the past year. Targetting the tailenders’ stumps, Malik went full and fast, making a mess of Chahar and Arora’s stumps to claim his third and fourth wickets of the afternoon.
“Needs some time (to realise what he’s done). In Jammu, it usually gets to 47 or 48 degrees, so it doesn’t matter (the heat), it’s actually nice to play in this heat. I think I have got my line and length better over the last few days, the plan was to keep it full and straight, and in that channel just outside off,” Umran Malik, who holds the record of the fastest ball bowled in the IPL by an Indian bowler, said soon after his incredible four-wicket maiden 20th over.
Twitter couldn’t keep calm as netizens went berserk drooling over this incredible Indian talent that Umran Malik is. Fans wondered what a sight Malik would be with the red ball, a few others reckoned Indian cricket has been blessed with a bowler such as Umran Malik.
