While lauding Jos Buttler for his sportsmanship spirit with a tweet, former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh found himself in the firing line of the fans as they thought he had taken a dig at off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
One incident involving Rajasthan Royals’ Buttler has got him a lot of praise from the fans. Buttler was fielding at the long-on boundary during the 12th over of Gujarat Titans’ innings. After Hardik Pandya pulled a short ball from James Neesham to wide long-on, the Englishman sprinted and put in a dive to save the boundary.
However, while sliding he got in contact with the boundary rope while also in contact with the ball. Unsure whether he’d saved the four or not, Buttler signalled the umpire to check with the third umpire. It was given a four on comfirming by the TV umpire, but this gesture by the RR opener won the internet as fans hailed him for upholding the ‘Sprit of the game’ or ‘Spirit of cricket’.

Among many, Yuvraj Singh also took to Twitter to laud Buttler. However, the former all-rounder also stated that other players, especially Buttler’s own teammates should learn from him how to play within the ‘spirit of the game’!
“We still have gentleman in the game of cricket !!! @josbuttler other players should learn from him specially team mates !!!” Yuvraj Singh tweeted.

While Yuvraj Singh only mentioned his “team mates”, not whether Buttler’s Rajasthan Royals or England teammates, fans wondered if Yuvraj Singh took a dig at R Ashwin. Again – Yuvraj didn’t mention Ashwin but netizens felt his words were indicated toward the off-spinner.

In recent times, Ashwin has been amidst the debate of ‘Spirit of cricket’ that he lit up when playing for Punjab Kings he ran out Jos Buttler when the latter was backing up too far the non-striker’s end. The champion off-spinner has since been subject to criticism from a section of fans and former cricketers for not upholding the ‘spirit of cricket’.
Here are some of the angry reactions of fans to Yuvraj Singh’s tweet:
We should just unfollow some ‘superstars’ post their retirement. Don’t want to develop any hatred against them, whom we had respected so much. Let’s just retire them from our memories as the ones who won us World Cup and many other memorable matches.

If he is referring to Ashwin, it’s just a cheap shot. Anyway Ashwin is doing the right thing and is a trendsetter.

Why so much hate.

Ohk , Ashwin dropped him from the Punjab team when Ash was the captain of KXIP , hence this bitterness.

Saltyness nahi jaega tum logo ka kabhi bhi , that’s why you’ll never be loved the way MS gets loved.
You could have appreciated Buttler without targeting Ashwin , but nahi
And Ashwin doesn’t need your certificate to be a Gentlemen , he was one and he’ll always be one…— Cheeku (@Lost_guy01) April 14, 2022
Meanwhile, Buttler’s blitzkrieg of 54 runs from 24 balls laid the platform for RR’s chase of 193. However, the other batters couldn’t capitalize on the start and RR fell 37 runs short of the Gujarat’s total.
